fragrance ingredients
Our fragrances consist mostly of natural essential oils, as well as absolutes of natural origin, that have been carefully sourced and masterly composed to provide a real signature for each product. In some cases, we also use nature-identical synthetic molecules when a natural alternative is not reasonably available.
We also indicate when any of the 26 fragrance allergens occur in the product above a certain limit, as required by authorities. You can find details of them below.
basil
Our basil essential oil is extracted from the ocimum basilicum plant, grown in Egypt. The leaves and flowering tops are harvested in full bloom, usually in the height of summer, in the morning before the sun has risen too high. The fresh, uplifting herbaceous essential oil is then extracted through steam distillation.
lemon
Our lemon essential oil is extracted from the citrus limon in Italy. The fruits are harvested from November to March, and their peels are mechanically separated from the juice and then pressed to release the essential oil, which is subsequently separated by centrifugation.
neroli
Our neroli essential oil is extracted from the flowers of the bitter orange tree (citrus aurantium). It is produced from the flowers that have been hand-picked during the spring season, when they are at their most fragrant. The essential oil is extracted from the blossoms through hydro-distillation. It has a sweet, floral, and citrusy aroma with hints of bitterness and astringency.
citron
Cedrat, also known as citron or citrus medica, is a fruit that is similar in appearance to a lemon but has a thicker, rougher peel. Our Cedrat is grown in Italy, and its essential oil extracted from the rind through cold-pressing, a process that involves crushing the fruit and separating the oil from the peel. This method helps preserve the fresh and bright aroma of the fruit.
osmanthus
The osmanthus fragrans, also referred to as fragrant olive, is a flowering plant that is native to Asia. The small white and yellow flowers bloom in the autumn and are highly fragrant, with a complex creamy, velvety, and fruity character, which is reminiscent of stone fruit like apricots and peaches. Their absolute is obtained through solvent extraction.
jasmine
Our jasmine absolute is responsibly sourced from the jasminum grandiflorum plant in Egypt. The flowers are handpicked from July to November by a network of independent farmers in the Nile delta. The more than 259 molecules that make up its scent are captured with volatile solvents, delivering one of the most complex floral scents in perfumery.
mimosa
Our mimosa absolute is responsibly sourced only from the flowers of the acacia decurrens, growing wildly in Morocco. The flowers are harvested from April to May, and the absolute is extracted with a volatile solvent that captures their heart notes, followed by an ethanol purification. The absolute conveys a distinct and delicate sweet, powdery floral note.
almond
Our almond essential oil is sourced from the kernels of the bitter almond (prunus dulcis var. amara), which is native to the Mediterranean. The tree produces white, fragrant flowers that develop into fruit. The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the fruits cold pressed nuts.
cypress
Our cypress essential oil is sourced from cupressus sempervirens trees, growing in France. The leaves, twigs and cones of the cypress tree are distilled with steam to release the aromatic compounds. The resulting steam and essential oil are then condensed and collected. The highest quality cypress oil is typically obtained from mature trees.
lavender
Our lavender essential oil is responsibly sourced from lavandula angustifolia growing in the Drome region in the south of France. Their flowers and stems are harvested in July and August and steam distilled to capture the soft, flowery and herbal notes that make for this distinct olfactive experience.
mandarin
Our mandarin essential oil is extracted from the citrus reticulata blanco, in southern Italy. The fruit are harvested from November to March, and their essential oil is extracted by grating the zest under running water and then separated from the water by centrifugation. This typical Italian technique is called ”pelatrice.” Subsequent distillation generates a colourless essential oil.
sage [sauge]
Our clary sage essence is sustainably sourced from the salvia sclarea, grown in the Vaucluse area in southern France. Their flowers and stems are mechanically harvested in Summer, and then both distilled into an essential oil, bringing out fresher aromatic notes, and extracted into an absolute with heavier and darker herbaceous notes.
